Back Home, Baby!

I’m back!

Exchange was so sick. I think it is so incredibly valuable and cool to live outside your home country for a while—no matter where you go, your worldview will be expanded and you’ll meet amazing people who you wouldn’t have met otherwise.

My favourite things about London are:

1. The architecture and beauty of the city in general. Most of the city is quite old and much of it follows older European architectural styles, which I find beautiful, and much more visually interesting than many modern cities.

2. The things to do! Going to the theatre, the markets, the carnivals—the options are endless. I have also discovered a new-found passion for visiting museums and art galleries. My two favourites are the Victoria and Albert Museum and Tate Modern—honourable mention going to the National Gallery.

3. The people. From professors to flatmates and friends, I really value all the relationships I formed and the people I got to meet while there.

4. I can’t not mention King’s College in this list. King’s is an amazing (and beautiful) school of incredible academic calibre, and I am so grateful I got to attend, learn, and explore such an amazing institution, with such insightful professors and interesting classes.

But I’m back! And I am really happy to be here—it’s so nice to walk around a familiar campus and see so many people I know and missed while I was away. Western’s community atmosphere can’t be beat, and I am really enjoying getting to go out with friends, attend club meetings and events, and simply chat with so many people I know again. Going on exchange has made me appreciate the Western campus that much more, and I am extremely grateful for the experience.

So, go apply for an exchange! If you’re on the fence—apply! If you’re nervous—apply! Western International and previous students who have been on exchange can help inform you about so much of the experience, what programs are offered, and where to go. It’s a great opportunity to give your degree a global appeal, and to explore a new place in a way you may never be able to do again. I hope anyone who has followed has enjoyed this series, and I hope it has helped give you some insight into what going on exchange is really like!
